Define your current organizational role.
As the Mayor Dyer’s Multicultural Affairs Director, Luis provides leadership in the creation and implementation of community outreach initiatives to create strong communication bonds and enhance the engagement of multicultural communities with City services, programs and events, such as Hispanic/Latino, LGBTQ, Asian, and other ethnic groups. In addition, Luis assists and makes recommendations to the Mayor in the implementation of City policies and initiatives that foster inclusion, acceptance and diversity. Also, he serves as the Mayor's Spokesperson to local Hispanic and multicultural media.
Provide 1-2 points that have been important to your success
I have built a high level of empathy and sensitivity towards the minority and vulnerable communities who come to this nation to pursue a better life. In order to succeed as a Director of Multicultural Affairs passion and sensitivity are key tools.
Maintain the values and humility from my up bringing and always be loyal to my convictions.
What do you continue to be passionate about in your career/life?
Mayor Dyer offered me the unique opportunity to serve the Orlando community as a public servant, an honor I took to heart to create a platform to assist the growing multicultural community.
This position has provided the venue to connect with minority communities and learn about their concerns and needs. Also, it offers the professional tools to create initiatives that directly impact all minority communities.

I started my career in the entertainment business. I studied acting and dancing and created a musical-theater company with my siblings and performed in multiple musicals and TV commercials. When I moved from Puerto Rico to Orlando, I was recruited by Walt Disney World Company to perform in parades and shows.
Having the opportunity to be in the entertainment business allowed me to gain confidence and helped me become who I am. We all have to entertain in order to survive in life.
